Browns Mill Community Garden
Every student at South Atlanta High School will engage in at least one grade level interdisciplinary project based learning (PBL) experience per year. Since our theme is Advocating for the Community Through STEM, each PBL experience centers around a current community issue. Each experience will give students the opportunity to apply content knowledge to solve real-world relevant problems and present their solutions to an authentic and external audience.

Current PBLs
9th Grade: "To Garden or Not to Garden"
For the past few years students, teachers and community stakeholders have suggested for South Atlanta High School to start a food garden. The school campus already has food sources growing in various spaces but it is not an intentional garden effort. There is currently an indigenous garden (sponsored by the Georgia Audubon Society) near the entrance of the school where elderberry plants have been placed.
10th Grade: Food As Medicine
A genetic predisposition (sometimes also called genetic susceptibility) is an increased likelihood of developing a particular disease based on a person's genetic makeup. A genetic predisposition results from specific genetic variations that are often inherited from a parent.
11th Grade: Bridge Over Troubled Water
Poole Creek, is the name of the creek that runs alongside the school that often floods during heavy rain. Part of that creek runs under a bridge that is part of a bike trail that can be accessed through the Southside Park. Whenever the creek rises, it unfortunately floods the bridge. If this happens too often, it can cause damage to the bridge.
12th Grade: Food Insecurity OR Lake Charlotte
This semester, seniors will have a choice of which topic their PBL will focus upon.
